Today's Working Environment

As I stated to a couple people over the last few weeks, the days of the 40 hour work week and go home to your family are long gone. The days of the laws banning sweat shops that protected workers from long days have disappeared with the advent of "salaried employee" laws and lack of comp time.

Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against working hard, having to put in extra time "once in a while" to get a deadline met or to finish something so the next work week can start out on a good footing. My issue is with the advent of laptops to "allow the employee flex time", inexpensive cell phones and wireless networking, the employee is attached to the work environment 24 x 7 and EXPECTED to work in the evening, weekends and on vacation.

Even to this, as long as there is down time and appreciation, most people just do it and keep going because they have a good, stable position. Now those days are gone also, especially in the computer field. Now it is "do it or there are 500 other people that will for less money" or "you need another day off? you just had one last year"........

We wonder why prescription drugs and healthcare costs are skyrocketing? Human mind, bodies and souls can only take so much. We have been titled the human machine, but machines need repair and recharge time also.......

The key question is....will it ever get better in society or will the rat race continue to decline?
